Water Filtration Servicing FAQs
How often should a water filtration system be serviced?
That depends on your system and household size, but as a general rule 6-12 months.
We recommend 12 months maximum as after that period of time if the system starts to degrade and lose effectiveness. Used filters can also become a breeding ground for bacteria. Once bacteria colonise a filter, it can contaminate your water rather than clean it. We don’t want that!
If you’re on bore, rainwater or other hard water sources, your filter may need servicing more frequently. These systems work harder to remove excess sediment, minerals, and bacteria, which means more regular maintenance is essential. If your water tastes off, pressure has dropped, or it’s been a while, give us a call and we’ll check it over.
How much does it cost to service a water filtration system?
The cost of servicing depends on the type and size of your system, and the specific filters it uses.
As a guide, the cost of the cartridges water filter are:
- Twin Undersink Systems: $50–$200*
- Twin Whole House Systems: $100–$300*
- Triple Stage Whole House Systems: $200–$500*
- UV lamps (in addition to cartridges required from above): $100-300
- Undersink/on bench reverse osmosis: $200-500
As a guide, the cost of the on-site service is (cost in addition to parts used):
- Attendance for cartridge service: $99-165 (dependant on location)
- Attendance for UV or Reverse osmosis service: $198-297 (dependant on location)
When completing a service of your water filtration system our water technician will complete a system flush and water quality testing.
We’ll always give you a clear quote upfront, and if you’re already a HC Pure customer, you’ll automatically go on our service register, so we can check in when it’s time (no calendar reminders needed on your end).
How do I tell if my water filters needs servicing?
You might notice signs like:
Unusual taste or smell in your water
Drop in water pressure or flow
Discolouration or cloudiness
Service light/indicator is on (if your system has one)
It’s been 12+ months since the last service
Please Note: If you’re using bore or tank water, pay close attention to changes, these sources often carry more sediment and minerals, which can clog filters faster and can often require servicing more regularly.
